Fidel Parpaasi is a five-year-old boy living in Ngong with his parents. Since early childhood, he has experienced recurrent health challenges that have affected his growth and development. He has had delays in speech development and has not yet been able to start school like other children of his age. Despite these difficulties, Fidel remains a cheerful child, and his parents are hopeful that with appropriate medical care he will be able to enjoy a healthier future and pursue his education. From a young age, his parents noticed a swelling in the left groin area associated with recurrent pain and discomfort, particularly when he cried, coughed, or engaged in physical activity. They also observed that one of his testicles had not fully descended into the scrotum. Over time, these conditions continued to cause discomfort and interfere with his normal childhood activities. Fidel was eventually brought to the hospital when the swelling became trapped in the groin and could not be reduced, causing severe pain, distress, and significant discomfort. Medical evaluation confirmed a strangulated left inguinal hernia and a high-riding testis. The healthcare team explained that part of the intestine had become trapped within the hernia, creating a risk of compromised blood supply and serious complications if not treated urgently. Surgery was therefore recommended to correct both conditions, relieve the obstruction, and prevent future complications.

The patient was admitted with a left inguinal hernia and an undescended/high-riding testis. After examination and investigations, including an ultrasound scan, the child underwent surgery under general anaesthesia. The procedure involved a left herniotomy to repair the hernia and an orchiopexy to bring the testis down into the scrotum and fix it in place. The operation was completed successfully without reported complications. After surgery, the patient was monitored, given medication for pain relief and infection prevention, and advised on wound care. The child recovered well and was discharged the following day in stable condition

According to the doctors, if Fidel’s condition had been left untreated, it could have resulted in serious and life-threatening complications. The inguinal hernia was becoming trapped or strangulated, which could cut off blood supply to the intestines and lead to severe infection, tissue damage, or even death if emergency treatment was not provided in time. The high riding testis could also have caused long-term reproductive and developmental complications, including risk of cancer later in life. Early surgical treatment was therefore necessary to protect Fidel’s health and improve his future quality of life. Prognosis is good
