Arfan is a 3-year-old Rohingya child who lives with his parents, elder brother, and elder sister in a refugee camp. His father works as a day laborer whenever work is available, and the family mainly depends on food assistance to survive, making it impossible to afford the cost of specialized medical treatment. After an accidental fall, Arfan suffered a fracture in his right heel bone, causing severe pain, swelling, and difficulty walking. His injury has left him unable to play or move around normally, and his family is deeply worried about his future. Without timely treatment, the fracture may heal improperly, leading to long-term pain, difficulty walking, and permanent problems with mobility. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Helpster Volunteer Mohammad Ali Azad.

Arfan, a 3-year-old boy, was admitted to Orion Hospital on 03.06.2026 through Helpster volunteer Abu Sayeed with complaints of severe pain in the right heel, inability to bear weight or walk on the right foot due to pain, and swelling with tenderness over the right heel following an accidental fall from height two days earlier. Following admission, a thorough clinical examination and radiological investigations were performed, which confirmed the diagnosis of a Closed Undisplaced Fracture of the Right Calcaneus (Heel Bone). He was admitted for close monitoring and treated with immobilization using a Short Leg Back Slab (SLBS), pain management, strict non-weight-bearing, orthopedic care, supportive treatment, and regular follow-up. His condition improved satisfactorily during hospitalization. After 2 days of inpatient care, the patient was discharged on 05.06.2026 in a stable condition with medications, advice to continue limb immobilization, avoid weight-bearing, and attend scheduled orthopedic follow-up visits. The treatment expenses were fully supported by Helpster Charity, and the family expresses sincere gratitude to Helpster, its volunteers, and the hospital team for their kind support and care.

The treating orthopedic surgeon has advised admission for close monitoring, immobilization with a Short Leg Back Slab (SLBS) for 21 days, adequate pain management, strict non-weight-bearing, radiological evaluation, supportive care, and regular follow-up to ensure proper healing of the left heel bone. With appropriate immobilization, adherence to treatment, and gradual rehabilitation, the fracture is expected to unite well, allowing the patient to regain normal walking ability and return to daily activities without significant long-term disability. However, if timely treatment is not provided, the fracture may heal improperly, leading to malunion, chronic heel pain, deformity, impaired mobility, post-traumatic arthritis, and permanent functional disability, which in severe cases may result in life-threatening complications or even death due to associated trauma-related complications.
