Jisma Akter is a bright and kind-hearted 8-year-old Rohingya girl who lives with her parents and three elder siblings in the Kutupalong Refugee Camp, dreaming of becoming a doctor and helping others despite the hardships of refugee life. Her father, the family's only earning member, is now unable to work because of a serious illness, leaving the entire family dependent on World Food Programme food assistance and unable to afford the cost of surgery, hospitalization, medicines, and specialized treatment. After learning about Helpster Charity during a medical outreach program at Kutupalong, her family sought assistance in the hope of restoring Jisma's health and allowing her to continue her education. With no savings and no nearby government hospital capable of providing the required specialized care, the family has no other option for treatment. Without timely surgical intervention, acute exacerbation of chronic adenotonsillitis may lead to severe airway obstruction, recurrent serious infections, difficulty breathing and swallowing, sleep-related breathing disorders, peritonsillar abscess, bloodstream infection (sepsis), and other life-threatening complications that could permanently affect her health and development

Jisma Akter, an 8-year-old girl, was admitted to Orion Hospital on 09.07.2026 through Helpster volunteer Tamjid Md. Muktadir with severe throat pain, painful swallowing, high fever, nasal obstruction, and breathing difficulty. After clinical assessment, she was diagnosed with acute exacerbation of chronic adenotonsillitis and successfully underwent adenotonsillectomy under general anesthesia on 11.07.2026. She remained hospitalized for four days and was discharged on 13.07.2026 in stable condition with medications, dietary advice, and follow-up instructions. Her treatment was fully supported by Helpster Charity, and her family sincerely thanks Helpster, volunteer Tamjid Md. Muktadir, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of Orion Hospital for their compassionate care and generous support.

The doctors have recommended definitive surgical treatment through adenotonsillectomy, which is expected to significantly improve Jismat’s health and overall quality of life. Following the procedure, his breathing is expected to improve, throat pain and swallowing difficulties will resolve, and he will be able to eat, sleep, and participate in daily activities more comfortably. The surgery will also help prevent recurrent infections and reduce the risk of future complications. However, if left untreated, his condition may progressively worsen, leading to severe airway obstruction, repeated infections, poor nutritional intake, sleep disturbances, and impaired growth and development. In severe cases, ongoing breathing difficulties and related complications may become life-threatening, making timely surgical intervention essential for his recovery and long-term well-being.
