Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?
When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background
Sudais is an 8 year-old boy from a low-income family with earnings below 24,000 naira monthly. His parents are involved in small-scale trading. He is active, helpful at home, and enjoys playing football. Despite hardship, he maintains good social interaction. He dreams of becoming an educationist in the future. He was referred from a nearby facility with the complaints of right flank pain, crying during urination, occasional fever associated with hematuria. Parents noticed reduced appetite and irritability. Due to financial constraints, they delayed hospital presentation until his condition worsened. They sought Helpster Charity Foundation support for proper diagnosis and treatment. At UMD, he was subjected to preliminary investigations and later diagnosed to have Right nephrolithiasis. Planned for elective surgery upon approval.
Prognosis
Patient was seen, evaluated and diagnosed with kidney stone. He has been experiencing mild to moderate pain for a long time, which subsides with pain medication. If left untreated ,it could lead to Severe complications such as permanent kidney damage from chronic obstruction, life-threatening systemic infections, and the complete loss of organ function. Planned to proceed with elective surgery because the size of the stone is very large and cannot pass through the urine outlet. Currently, he is being managed with pain killers, antibiotics, and encouraged to take adequate fluids. The overall prognosis for nephrolithiasis is excellent, as most kidney stones pass naturally or are successfully cleared through minimally invasive procedures, though long-term lifestyle modifications are essential since the recurrence rate can reach up to 50 percent within ten years. Patient is expected to have a successful surgery without complications, given the absence of co-morbidities. This will improve his well-being and bring relief to him and his parents.
