Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Janeviv is the third-born child in a family of four children and lives with her mother and siblings. Her mother is the sole provider and earns a living through casual jobs such as washing clothes for other people and selling groundnuts at bus stations. Due to financial constraints, Janeviv has not yet been enrolled in school. She enjoys playing hide-and-seek with her peers and dreams of becoming a doctor when she grows up. Janeviv was brought to the health facility with a three-day history of high-grade fever and cough. The cough was initially dry but later became productive of sputum and was accompanied by difficulty breathing and poor feeding. According to her mother, she became progressively less active, spending most of her time lying down and showing little interest in play. She also developed generalized body weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and episodes of fast breathing. Her fever persisted despite home remedies, and she appeared increasingly unwell, irritable, and distressed. Concerned by her worsening condition, her mother sought medical attention, where she was evaluated and admitted for further investigations and treatment.

Medical history

Janeviv Rita presented in the facility accompanied by the mother presenting with a three day history of cough productive in nature, difficulty in breathing and poor feeding. On examination she was sick looking and febrile. Investigations done and a diagnosis of severe pneumonia made, she was managed on IV antibiotics and analgesia and discharged on oral medication. To come for review in five days.Currently she is active and playing with her peers

Prognosis

Janeviv was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, a serious lung infection that can significantly affect breathing and oxygen delivery to the body. At presentation, she had high fever, productive cough, difficulty breathing, poor feeding, weakness, and reduced activity, indicating a severe illness that required prompt medical attention and admission for treatment. Without timely intervention, severe pneumonia can lead to respiratory failure and other life-threatening complications, especially in young children. Fortunately, she was brought to the hospital for care and started on appropriate treatment. Her prognosis is favorable provided she responds well to therapy, completes the prescribed treatment, and receives adequate follow-up care. With proper management, a full recovery is expected.
