Rumin has been diagnosed with a right-sided reducible incomplete direct inguinal hernia, a condition where a portion of the intestine pushes through a weak area in the lower abdominal wall near the groin. This causes intermittent swelling and significant pain, especially during movement, crying, or physical activity. Although the swelling can temporarily reduce, the condition will not resolve on its own and requires surgical repair. Without timely treatment, there is a risk that the intestine could become trapped, leading to severe pain and potentially life-threatening complications.

Background
Romin is a polite, determined, and hardworking 14-year-old Forcibly Displaced Myanmar National (FDMN) boy who dreams of becoming a teacher despite the hardships of refugee life. After the death of his father, his widowed mother has struggled to care for the family, while his elder brother is still searching for work, leaving them with no regular source of income and dependent mainly on World Food Programme (WFP) food assistance in the FDMN camp, making the cost of surgery impossible to afford. During painful episodes of his inguinal hernia, Romin cries in severe pain, refuses to eat, and is unable to attend school or enjoy a normal childhood, causing deep concern for his family. Doctors have warned that without timely surgery, the hernia could become trapped, cutting off the blood supply to the intestine and leading to bowel damage, severe infection, emergency surgery, or even life-threatening complications. The family learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Abu Sayeed, giving them hope that Romin can receive the urgent treatment he needs and return to a healthy, active life.
Medical history
Rumin was admitted to Orion Hospital on 05 June 2026 with a right-sided inguinal hernia causing recurrent groin pain and scrotal swelling. After clinical evaluation, he successfully underwent herniotomy (inguinal hernia repair) under general anesthesia on 07 June 2026. Following post-operative care and close monitoring, he recovered well and was discharged in stable condition on 10 June 2026 with medications and follow-up advice. His family sincerely thanks Helpster Charity, Helpster volunteers, and the dedicated medical team at Orion Hospital for their timely financial assistance, compassionate care, and successful treatment.
Prognosis
Doctors have recommended a herniotomy (inguinal hernia repair) to correct Rumin condition and prevent further complications. With proper postoperative care, including pain management, wound care, and regular follow-up visits, he is expected to make a full recovery and return to normal childhood activities without pain or restriction. The procedure will relieve his recurring discomfort, improve his appetite, and allow him to grow and play like other children his age. However, if left untreated, the hernia may become trapped or obstructed, cutting off blood supply to the intestine and leading to a life-threatening emergency. Timely surgery will not only restore his health but also protect his future well-being and development.
