Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About skin

Abscess is a localized collection of pus within tissues caused by a bacterial infection. It usually presents as a painful, swollen, warm, and red lump. The body forms a cavity around the infection to prevent its spread. Treatment may include antibiotics and, when mature, incision and drainage of the pus.

Background

Yassir Nyongesa is a two-month-old boy and the third-born child in a family of three children being raised by their single mother. The family faces severe financial hardship and currently lives with a well-wisher after losing their home. His mother earns a living by washing clothes and working as a bar attendant, while relying on well-wishers to pay school fees for her eldest child. Due to the demands of her work, she is often forced to leave Yassir in the care of his older siblings. Yassir was brought to the health facility after developing a swelling on his back that appeared suddenly and progressively increased in size. The swelling became warm, tender, and painful to touch, causing the infant to cry whenever the affected area was handled. As the swelling continued to enlarge, his caregiver became increasingly concerned about the possibility of a serious infection and sought urgent medical attention. Given his young age and the rapid progression of the swelling, prompt assessment and treatment were considered necessary to prevent further complications.

Medical history

Yassir Nyongesa, a 2-month-old infant, was brought to the clinic with a painful swelling on his back. Clinical assessment revealed an abscess that was not yet mature enough for incision and drainage. He was treated conservatively with oral Floxapen, Flagyl, and Ibuprofen, and monitored closely for response to treatment. Yassir responded well to the medications, with a gradual reduction in swelling, pain, and signs of infection. He remained stable throughout treatment, fed well, and showed no complications. On follow-up review, his condition had improved significantly, and he was discharged in good health with an excellent prognosis.

Prognosis

The 2-month-old infant was diagnosed with an abscess, which is currently in the early stage and not yet suitable for incision and drainage. The baby has been managed conservatively with Floxapen, Flagyl, and Ibuprofen, with close monitoring for signs of maturation or worsening infection. The prognosis is good, provided the infant completes the prescribed treatment and attends follow-up reviews. Most early abscesses resolve with appropriate antibiotics, though drainage may be required if the collection enlarges or becomes fluctuant.
