Sadeka Bibi has been diagnosed with a left-sided inguinal hernia, a condition in which abdominal contents protrude through a weak area in the left groin, causing intermittent swelling and pain. The swelling typically increases with physical activity or straining and reduces on lying down or with gentle pressure. As the condition does not resolve on its own, surgical repair is required to prevent complications such as incarceration or strangulation of the hernia.

Background
Sadeka Bibi is a cheerful and determined 7-year-old Rohingya girl who studies in Class Two and dreams of becoming a teacher to help educate children in her community. She lives with her parents and five siblings in the Rohingya camp, where her father is unable to do heavy labor because of his illness, leaving the family dependent mainly on World Food Programme (WFP) food assistance and unable to afford the cost of her surgery. Her left-sided inguinal hernia causes repeated pain and swelling that prevents her from playing, walking comfortably, and attending school regularly. Doctors have warned that if the hernia is not repaired in time, it may become trapped, cutting off the blood supply to the intestine and leading to severe pain, bowel damage, life-threatening infection, and emergency surgery. The family learned about Helpster Charity through volunteer Md. Younus, giving them hope that Sadeka can receive the treatment she urgently needs and enjoy a healthy childhood.
Medical history
Sadeka Bibi was admitted on 12.06.2026 with complaints of left-sided groin swelling associated with intermittent pain for one year at Orion Hospital through Helpster volunteer Md Younus. On admission, a thorough clinical examination and necessary investigations were performed to confirm the diagnosis. She was diagnosed with a left-sided reducible inguinal hernia and subsequently underwent herniotomy (inguinal hernia repair) under General Anesthesia. Post-operative care, including pain management, wound care, and follow-up, was provided to ensure full recovery. She remained hospitalized for 05 days, and the operation was performed on 15.06.2026. She was discharged on 17.06.2026 in a stable condition with medications, dietary advice, and follow-up instructions. The treatment expenses were fully supported by Helpster Charity, and the family expresses sincere gratitude to Helpster, its volunteers, and the hospital team for their kind support and care.
Prognosis
Doctors have recommended herniotomy (inguinal hernia repair) to treat Sadeka Bibi’s left-sided inguinal hernia and prevent future complications. With appropriate post-operative care, including pain management, wound care, and regular follow-up, she is expected to make a full recovery and gradually return to her normal daily activities. Timely surgical treatment will relieve her symptoms and reduce the risk of serious complications if the hernia is left untreated.
