Md. Rahat Islam is a cheerful and brave 5-year-old boy who dreams of growing up healthy and playing with his friends again. After losing his mother at an early age, he has been lovingly raised by his grandparents, who struggle to care for him on a monthly income of only BDT 7,000–8,000, making it impossible to afford the cost of his emergency surgeries and ongoing treatment. Following a devastating machinery accident, Rahat suffered a severe crush injury to his right hand, and without urgent surgery and plastic reconstruction, he could face permanent loss of finger function, severe infection, tissue death, lifelong disability, or even life-threatening blood infection (sepsis). The family learned about Helpster Charity through the treating hospital, and volunteer Md. Abu Hanif guided them through the support process, giving them hope during this difficult time.

Md. Rahat Islam was admitted to Good Health Hospital on 18 May 2026 with a severe crush injury to his right hand. During his hospitalization, he underwent three successful operations, including K-wire stabilization and wound closure, flap coverage surgery, and flap division with inset, followed by medications, wound care, and close monitoring. His condition gradually improved, and he was discharged on 22 June 2026 with follow-up instructions and rehabilitation advice. Rahat's family sincerely expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Helpster Charity, its dedicated volunteers, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of Good Health Hospital for their timely financial assistance, skilled surgical care, and compassionate support, which helped save his hand and gave him the opportunity for a healthier future.

According to the treating doctor, emergency surgical treatment, wound cleaning, K-wire stabilization, primary wound closure, immobilization, and planned plastic surgery are essential to save Md. Rahat Islam's injured hand and restore its function. With timely treatment and proper rehabilitation, the wound can heal, the bones and joints can recover, and he has a good chance of regaining normal movement and use of his hand. However, if left untreated, the severe crush injury may lead to uncontrolled bleeding, serious infection, permanent damage to the bones, joints, tendons, and nerves, loss of blood supply to the fingers, tissue death (gangrene), and possible amputation of part or all of the hand. In severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream (sepsis), becoming life-threatening. Early treatment offers the best chance for recovery and preservation of hand function.
