A person with an inguinal hernia typically experiences a noticeable bulge or lump in the groin area. This bulge can be painful or uncomfortable, especially when lifting, coughing, or straining. Some individuals might also feel aching or burning sensations around the hernia. In certain cases, the hernia can lead to symptoms like groin pain, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, and discomfort.

Background
Umar is a happy 3-year-old from a family with little money. He enjoys playing with cats and riding his bicycle. A year ago, he started having a swelling in his scrotum that can be pushed back manually or on its own, along with a heavy feeling. The swelling was small at first but has slowly gotten bigger and sometimes causes pain. He has been diagnosed with an Inguinal Hernia and is now waiting to have surgery.
Medical history
Umar was admitted for surgery on February 20, 2024, for an inguinoscrotal hernia. The surgery was successful, and he was discharged on February 22, 2024, fully recovered and stable.
Prognosis
If left untreated, inguinal hernias can lead to complications such as bowel obstruction, strangulation (where blood supply to the herniated tissue is cut off), and significant pain or discomfort. Surgery is the most common treatment for inguinal hernias to repair the weakened area and prevent these potential complications and the child will have a better life.
