A severe urinary tract infection is an infection of the urinary system, often caused by bacteria such as E. coli, that affects the bladder and sometimes the kidneys. Patients usually present with high-grade fever, lower abdominal or flank pain, painful and frequent urination, urgency, and occasionally blood in urine. Severe infections require prompt medical treatment with antibiotics, hydration, and monitoring, as untreated UTI can lead to kidney damage or systemic infection.

Background
Abashe is a 12-year-old boy from a modest family. He enjoys helping his mother with cooking and household chores, loves reading his books as well, and plays with his younger siblings. He dreams of becoming a nurse in the future so he can care for sick children in his community. He has generally been healthy, with no chronic illnesses or previous surgeries. Abashe is a 12-year-old male, presented with high-grade fever, lower abdominal pain, and painful urination for 3 days. He also had frequent urination, urgency, and occasional blood-stained urine. His parents noted that he was lethargic and complained of back pain at times. At UMD, he he seen evaluated to have Severe urinary tract infection. Treatment commenced on intravenous antibiotics, analgesics, and hydration with close monitoring of urine output and response to treatment.
Prognosis
Abashe was evaluated and diagnosed with severe urinary tract infection (UTI), a condition that can become life-threatening if it ascends to the kidneys or progresses to systemic infection. This condition requires prompt and appropriate medical intervention. The primary complications of a severe urinary tract infection (UTI) include renal abscess formation, permanent kidney scarring, perinephric abscesses, pyelonephritis, and life-threatening systemic urosepsis with associated septic shock. He is in acute pain, immediate treatment with antibiotics, fluids and pain relief medication is the best approach for his condition. The primary complications of a severe urinary tract infection (UTI) include renal abscess formation, permanent kidney scarring, perinephric abscesses, pyelonephritis, and life-threatening systemic urosepsis with associated septic shock.
