When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections
Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is a life-threatening form of undernutrition in which a child becomes extremely thin or develops swelling due to severe lack of nutrients. It weakens the immune system, making the child highly vulnerable to infections such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. Without urgent treatment, SAM can lead to organ failure, delayed growth and development, and death. Management includes therapeutic feeding, treatment of infections, and close medical monitoring. Severe pneumonia is a serious lung infection that causes the air sacs in the lungs to fill with fluid or pus, making breathing difficult and reducing the amount of oxygen reaching the body. Common symptoms include persistent cough, fever, fast or difficult breathing, chest indrawing, poor feeding, and extreme weakness. It requires urgent hospital treatment with antibiotics, oxygen when needed, and supportive care to prevent respiratory failure and other life-threatening complications. Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease of the lungs caused by the bacterium *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. It spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include a persistent cough, fever, night sweats, weight loss, poor appetite, and tiredness. Without treatment, it can permanently damage the lungs and spread to other parts of the body. Early diagnosis and completion of the full course of anti-tuberculosis medication are essential for recovery and to prevent transmission.

Background
Mercy is a three-year-old girl. Despite growing up in an underprivileged environment, she is cheerful, resilient, and enjoys listening to music and playing with other children. She lives in difficult socioeconomic circumstances where access to adequate nutrition and healthcare is limited. Although still very young, Mercy's strength and joyful spirit reflect her potential to thrive with the right support and care. Before being brought to the hospital, Mercy had been experiencing a persistent cough and progressively worsening difficulty in breathing. Over time, she became increasingly weak, lost a significant amount of weight, had poor appetite, and appeared severely wasted, indicating prolonged illness and malnutrition. Her breathing became labored, and she was unable to play or feed normally, prompting her family to seek urgent medical attention. Following thorough clinical assessment and investigations, she was diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), severe pneumonia, and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Owing to the seriousness of her condition, she was admitted for intensive treatment, nutritional rehabilitation, and close medical monitoring.
Medical history
Mercy Arot, a three-year-old girl, began a difficult recovery journey after being admitted with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), Pneumonia (PNA), and Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB), presenting with respiratory distress and a wasted physical appearance. Throughout his intensive treatment in June 2026—which involved vital sign monitoring, medication management, and diagnostic X-rays—the Helpster Charity provided essential support by covering his hospital bills and standing by the family. Amidst his care, his love for singing offered a bright spark of resilience, and by June 14, 2026, he was reported to be in a stable condition and no longer in respiratory distress as his health began to resolve.
Prognosis
The prognosis is guarded but potentially good with timely and appropriate treatment. Because Mercy has multiple serious conditions occurring simultaneously, she requires urgent and sustained medical care. Early intervention greatly increases her chances of survival, recovery, and achieving normal growth and development. Conversely, failure to treat these conditions promptly places her at very high risk of life-threatening complications and mortality.
