Acute viral gastroenteritis is an infection of the stomach and intestines that causes fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, poor appetite, and weakness, making children vulnerable to dehydration and nutritional problems. Shetol has been suffering from persistent high-grade fever, cough, cold, vomiting, and abdominal pain for more than a week, and his condition gradually worsened despite initial treatment

Background
Shetol Barua is a cheerful, hardworking, and determined 6-year-old Bangladeshi girl who loves going to school and dreams of becoming a teacher. She is the youngest of three siblings and is dearly loved by her family, but her father is a day laborer whose irregular income is barely enough to provide food and other basic necessities, making it impossible to afford her hospital treatment. As her fever, cough, vomiting, abdominal pain, and weakness continued to worsen, her parents became desperate because they could not pay for specialized medical care after local treatment failed. Doctors warned that if her acute viral gastroenteritis with fever was left untreated, she could develop severe dehydration, worsening infection, shock, and other life-threatening complications. After learning about Helpster Charity through volunteer Md. Younus, the family finally found hope that Shetol could receive the life-saving treatment she urgently needed and return to her healthy childhood.
Medical history
Shetol Barua was admitted to Orion Hospital on 18 June 2026 through Helpster volunteer Md. Younus with acute viral gastroenteritis with fever, causing persistent high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, cough, and cold symptoms. She received hospitalization, medications, nutritional support, supportive care, and close medical monitoring, responding well to treatment. She was discharged in stable condition on 21 June 2026 with medications, dietary advice, and follow-up instructions. Her family sincerely thanks Helpster Charity, its dedicated volunteers, and the medical team at Orion Hospital for their generous financial support, compassionate care, and successful treatment.
Prognosis
According to the treating doctor, hospitalization, medications for fever, supportive care, nutritional support, necessary investigations, and close medical monitoring are essential to treat Shetol Barua's acute viral gastroenteritis with fever and prevent further complications. With timely treatment, her fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and weakness are expected to improve, allowing her appetite, strength, and normal daily activities to gradually return. However, if left untreated, persistent vomiting and poor oral intake may lead to severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, worsening infection, shock, and damage to vital organs, especially in a young child. Early medical intervention is therefore critical to prevent life-threatening complications and ensure a safe and complete recovery.
