Andrew is a three-year-old boy and the fifth-born in a family of six children. He lives with his parents, who both have mental illness, leaving the family dependent on begging for food and survival. They live in a small two-room mud house without electricity and survive on about KSh 1,000 per month from well-wishers. Despite these hardships, Andrew is a cheerful child who enjoys playing with his siblings whenever he is well. One day before admission, Andrew suddenly developed high fever, severe headache, body weakness, repeated vomiting, poor feeding, and progressive lethargy. His condition rapidly deteriorated, and he developed convulsions, became extremely pale, and appeared critically ill. At the hospital, laboratory investigations confirmed severe malaria with severe anemia. He was immediately admitted to the pediatric ward for emergency treatment Owing to the family's extreme poverty and inability to meet the hospital costs, he was referred to Helpster Charity for financial assistance while continuing to receive close medical monitoring.

Andrew was admitted to the hospital with severe malaria and anaemia, requiring immediate medical care. He was started on intravenous (IV) antimalarial medication to treat the malaria infection and received a blood transfusion to correct the anaemia. He was also given IV fluids, fever-reducing medication, nutritional support, and was closely monitored by the healthcare team throughout his hospital stay. Following treatment, Andrew's condition steadily improved. His fever resolved, his haemoglobin level increased, and he regained his strength and appetite. Once he was clinically stable, he was discharged home with medication and follow-up instructions to support his full recovery. Andrew and his family expressed their sincere appreciation to Helpster Charity Organization for the financial and medical support that enabled him to receive timely treatment.

Andrew was diagnosed with severe malarial anemia, a life-threatening complication of malaria requiring immediate hospitalization. The combination of a high malaria parasite load, severe anemia, repeated vomiting, convulsions, and dehydration placed him at high risk of shock, heart failure, brain injury, multiple organ dysfunction, and death if treatment had been delayed. He required emergency treatment with injectable antimalarial medication, intravenous fluids, supportive care, and close monitoring, with blood transfusion if clinically indicated. Following prompt treatment, Andrew's condition stabilized and he showed encouraging improvement. With completion of treatment, nutritional support, malaria prevention measures, and regular follow-up, his prognosis is favorable and he is expected to make a good recovery.
