About infections
Oithik Barua Ortho has been diagnosed with Acute Severe Watery Diarrhea leading to Severe Dehydration, concomitant with Dengue Fever. Acute severe watery diarrhea causes excessive loss of water and essential salts from the body, while dengue fever is a viral infection that can cause high fever, weakness, and increase the risk of bleeding and shock. Due to frequent diarrhea, high-grade fever, severe abdominal pain, weakness, and lethargy, Oithik has developed severe dehydration, making his condition critical and requiring urgent medical attention

Background
Orthik Barua Ortho is a cheerful, caring, and intelligent 9-year-old Bangladeshi boy who dreams of becoming a doctor and lovingly looks after his younger twin sisters. His father earns a small income as a village tailor, which is barely enough to feed the family of five, making the cost of emergency hospital treatment impossible to afford, while his mother struggles to care for the children, especially the twins. Orthik's sudden illness with acute severe watery diarrhea, severe dehydration, and dengue fever left him critically ill, causing great fear and anxiety among his parents and sisters. Doctors have warned that without immediate treatment, he could develop severe dehydration, shock, uncontrolled bleeding related to dengue, multiple organ failure, and even death. After learning about Helpster Charity through Helpster volunteer Md. Younus, the family found hope that Orthik could receive the life-saving treatment he urgently needed and return to his healthy childhood and education.
Medical history
Orthik Barua Ortho was admitted to Orion Hospital on 10 June 2026 through Helpster volunteer Md. Younus with acute severe watery diarrhea, severe dehydration, and dengue fever. He received hospitalization, intravenous fluid therapy, medications, nutritional support, supportive care, and close medical monitoring, responding well to treatment. He was discharged in stable condition on 16 June 2026 with medications, dietary advice, and follow-up instructions. His family sincerely thanks Helpster Charity, its dedicated volunteers, and the medical team at Orion Hospital for their generous financial support, compassionate care, and successful treatment.
Prognosis
With immediate hospitalization and proper treatment, including fluid and electrolyte replacement, Orthik Barua’s condition is expected to improve significantly, with stabilization of hydration status and gradual resolution of symptoms. Continuous monitoring and supportive care will help manage fever, abdominal discomfort, and prevent further complications related to both acute watery diarrhea and dengue fever. Early medical intervention greatly reduces the risk of serious outcomes and supports a full recovery. However, if left untreated, severe dehydration can lead to shock, organ dysfunction, and even death. Furthermore, untreated dengue infection may progress to more severe forms of the disease, increasing the risk of bleeding complications and further deterioration of the child's condition.
