Nibir Sikder, a 2-month-old infant, has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia, a serious lung infection that causes inflammation of the air sacs and makes it difficult for the lungs to deliver enough oxygen to the body. In young infants, severe pneumonia can rapidly lead to breathing difficulties, low oxygen levels, poor feeding, and extreme weakness, making it a life-threatening condition.

Background
Nibir Sikder is a precious 2-month-old baby who lives with his parents, 9-year-old brother, and grandmother in a family of five, bringing hope and joy despite their difficult circumstances. His father is the family's only earning member, working as a day labourer with a monthly income of approximately BDT 8,000, which is barely enough to provide food and other basic necessities, leaving the family unable to afford the cost of hospitalization, medicines, oxygen therapy, and ongoing treatment. After learning about Helpster Charity through volunteer Masud Rana, the family sought assistance in the hope of saving Nibir's life. Despite exhausting their limited resources, they cannot continue his treatment without financial support. Without timely treatment, severe pneumonia can rapidly progress to respiratory failure, bloodstream infection (sepsis), permanent lung damage, and other life-threatening complications that could put Nibir's life at serious risk.
Medical history
Nibir Sikder was admitted to Narayanganj Poly Clinic General Hospital on 21 June 2026 with severe pneumonia. He received immediate conservative treatment, including oxygen support, medications, intravenous fluids, and close monitoring by the medical team. His condition gradually improved with treatment, and he became clinically stable. He was discharged from the hospital on 26 June 2026 with advice to continue prescribed medications at home, attend follow-up visits, and seek immediate medical care if his symptoms returned or worsened.
Prognosis
The recommended treatment is hospitalization, antibiotic therapy, nebulization, and other supportive therapy to control the lung infection, improve breathing, maintain adequate oxygen levels, and prevent further complications. With timely treatment, close medical monitoring, proper hydration, nutritional support, and completion of the prescribed medications, Nibir is expected to recover fully and achieve normal growth and development. If left untreated, severe pneumonia can rapidly progress to respiratory failure, severe oxygen deficiency, bloodstream infection (sepsis), shock, permanent lung damage, multi-organ failure, and even death. Early and appropriate medical care is essential to protect his life and ensure a healthy recovery.
