Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About digestion system

He’s a 5yr old boy born with a condition known as hirschprung’s disease, he was delivered at term, however had delayed passage of meuconium and abdominal distention, child was only able to pass meuconium at the fourth day of life, this was as a result of absent ganglion cells. Since initial discovery by parents child has been having chronic constipation, abdominal distention and frequent abdominal upset with associated fever. Child was taken to BDTH were investigations including barium enema and rectal biopsies were carried out and a diagnosis of Hirschprung’s disease was made, however, caregivers were not able to afford surgery. Parents were subsequently enlightened on regular rectal washout to reduce abdominal distention, constipation and risk of hirschprung’s associated enterocolitis. The definite management step required for the patient is surgical correction (transanal pull through), to improve child’s condition and reduce risk of complications

Background

Umar Abubakar is the first child of the family. He attends Airforce base primary school and he is in Primary 2. He likes to play football and like s watching cartoon. His father is a disengaged contract worker while his mother is a teacher. The child is unable to pass stool by himself, he was taken to Barua Dikko Teaching Hospital Kaduna where a diagnosis of Hirschprungs disease was made. A nurse handed him a Helpster Charity flyer and they found their way to Epsilon specialist hospital.

Prognosis

Because of the health situation of the child, ‘Hirschprung’s disease’ child will benefit from early surgical intervention, post surgical resolution of earlier symptoms is high which makes prognosis a very good one. However some post surgical complications are not uncommon, like diarrhea, constipation due to retainned aganglionic segment.
