Korishe Akter Keya has been diagnosed with a peritonsillar abscess, a serious infection that causes a collection of pus near the tonsils. The infection has resulted in persistent throat pain, enlarged tonsils, a constant foreign body sensation, and a burning feeling in her throat, making it difficult for her to eat and carry out her daily activities. As her condition has continued for several months without improvement, she now requires urgent surgical treatment and close medical care. Without timely treatment, the infection may spread to nearby tissues, block the airway, and lead to serious, potentially life-threatening complications.
Background
Korishe Akter Keya is a bright, hardworking, and determined 12-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a schoolteacher and making her parents proud through education. She lives with her parents and younger brother, and her father is a poor farmer whose limited income is barely enough to provide food and other basic necessities, making it impossible for the family to afford the surgery she urgently needs. She has been suffering from a severe throat infection that has caused persistent pain, difficulty swallowing, and a constant sensation of something stuck in her throat, and without timely treatment, the infection may spread to the deep tissues of the neck or bloodstream, causing airway blockage, severe infection, and other potentially life-threatening complications. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Abdul Alim, who referred them to Bablu Abdullah for assistance, giving them hope when they had no other way to pay for her treatment.
Medical history
Korishe Akter Keya was admitted to the hospital on June 26, 2026, after being diagnosed with a Peritonsillar Abscess. She underwent successful surgery the following day. After receiving two days of post-operative care, she was discharged in good health. Upon her discharge, her father and mother came to the hospital to take her home. The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Helpster, Jumuna Clinic, and Bablu Abdullah for their compassionate treatment, care, and unwavering support throughout her recovery. Keya's mother was especially grateful for the financial assistance provided by Helpster, which significantly eased the family's burden during this difficult time. She sincerely thanked everyone involved for their kindness and generosity.
Prognosis
According to the treating doctor, incision and drainage (I&D) of the peritonsillar abscess is the recommended treatment to remove the collection of pus, eliminate the infection, and relieve pain and difficulty swallowing. The procedure is expected to reduce the infection, improve her ability to eat and speak comfortably, and prevent the condition from recurring or worsening. However, if left untreated, the infection may spread to the deep tissues of the neck or bloodstream, leading to severe infection, airway obstruction, difficulty breathing, and other potentially life-threatening complications. Early surgical treatment and proper follow-up care offer the best chance for a full recovery and a healthy future.
