About severe malaria and typhoid
Severe malaria is a life-threatening form of malaria caused predominantly by Plasmodium falciparum. It occurs when the malaria parasites multiply rapidly in the bloodstream, leading to widespread destruction of red blood cells and blockage of small blood vessels. Typhoid fever is a systemic bacterial infection caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi. The infection is usually acquired through ingestion of food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person.

Background
Grace Habila is a 1 year child living with with her parents and one sibling who is 4 years old. They live in Gidan Biri, a village community under Karu LGA. They live in family compound comprising of their grandparents and relatives. The father Mr. Habila, is a subsistence farmer. He only depends on his little farm to cater for his family. The family estimated monthly income is pegged at 20,000. Currently the sibling of Grace who is of school age, is currently out of school. Grace Habila, 1 year old child was presented by her mother. Who complained of the child's suffering from severe cough, watery stool and general weakness of the body. Various home remedies were deployed but there wasn't any improvements. Upon physical examination, child was looking pale, weak and ill. Laboratory investigations were conducted and the Grace was diagnosed with Severe malaria and Typhoid Fever. She admitted for emergency treated accordingly.
Medical history
Grace Habila, one year old girl was presented by her mother with complaints of fever, weakness of the body, cough and watery stool. Laboratory tests were conducted and she was diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Typhoid. The patient was admitted and treated with I.V Artesunate, I.V X-pen, susp. Cefuroxime tabs, syrup Paracetamol, syrup albendazole, syrup metronidazole etc. Patient showed vital signs of improvements and has since been discharged for further recovery at home. Her parents are grateful to Helpful and happy for the free treatment received.
Prognosis
For Grace Habila, One year old child suffering from severe malaria and typhoid fever presents a serious infectious condition requiring urgent medical attention. The prognosis is guarded at presentation due to increased risk of complications associated with the two diseases. However, with timely intervention and treatment and supportive care the likelihood of recovery is good. Consequently, delayed treatment or the development of severe complications may adversely affect the outcome and increase the risk of morbidity and mortality.
