Promise Ayuba is a four year old boy. Who lives with his mother, father and 3 other older siblings. They live in uke bus-stop community. The patient's father is a driver who earns less than 40,000 naira and has recently lost his job. The mother is a farmer who manages a small plot of land for subsistence farming. The family lives in a two room modest apartment. Promise Ayuba, a four year old has over the past days suffer from weakness of the body, loss of appetite and high body temperature. Home treatment was attempted by the care giver with paracetamol and antimalarials but the condition subsides for a period of time. Consequently, when the caregiver could no longer manage the situation, the child was brought to the clinic. Upon physical examination, the child was seen to be suffering from fever associated with stomach pain and weakness. Upon further lab investigations, the child was diagnosed with Severe malaria and typhoid. He was admitted for urgent medical treatment.

Promise Ayuba a four year old child was presented by his mother who complained of the child's body weakness, loss of appetite and high body temperature. The caregiver reported to have tried various medications at home but the symptoms kept getting worse. Upon presentation, the child was seen to be visibly weak, pale and high body temperature. After laboratory investigations, he was diagnosed with Severe malaria and typhoid.with immediate attention given to stabilizing his condition through fluids, fever control, and close monitoring. Intravenous antimalarial medication was started promptly to clear the malaria parasites. After a day, visible signs of improvements were observed and upon that development, he was discharged with oral medications such as multivitamins, ibuprofen, paracetamol, cefuroxime and ACT antimalarials for further recovery.

Promise Ayuba a four year old child diagnosed with Severe malaria and typhoid. The prognosis for this child is guarded at presentation but good with early diagnosis, appropriate treatment and close supervision. Child is expected to recover completely within five to six days if properly managed. The prognosis for a co-infection of severe malaria and typhoid fever is highly favorable with immediate, concurrent administration of intravenous artesunate and targeted broad-spectrum antibiotics; however, if treatment is delayed, this dual infection carries a very high mortality rate due to an escalated risk of rapid multi-organ failure, severe metabolic acidosis, intestinal perforation, and profound septic shock However, delayed treatment may result in complications such as anemia, dehydration or intestinal complications may worsen outcome.
