Tanjim Jashim is an 18-month-old boy suffering from gastroenteritis with scabies, a condition that caused frequent foul-smelling loose stools mixed with mucus, repeated vomiting, and abdominal distension for several days. The prolonged diarrhea and vomiting made him weak, lethargic, and irritable, significantly affecting his overall health and well-being. In addition, he was suffering from scabies, a contagious skin condition that can cause intense itching and discomfort. Due to the severity of his symptoms, he required hospitalization

Background
Tanjim Jashim is a cheerful and innocent 18-month-old boy who lives with his parents and elder sister, Nurjahan Rawshan Ara, in a small rented room in the Karail slum of Dhaka. His father, Md. Jasim Uddin, earns only 10,000 BDT per month as an auto-rickshaw driver, and after paying rent and basic household expenses, the family has little money left for medical treatment. When Tanjim developed severe diarrhea, repeated vomiting, abdominal swelling, and scabies, his condition rapidly weakened him, leaving him irritable and unable to play or eat properly. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a Helpster volunteer while struggling to afford his treatment at Al-Sunnah General Hospital. Without timely treatment, Tanjim could suffer from severe dehydration, serious infection, malnutrition, and other life-threatening complications, making urgent medical care essential for his recovery and healthy development.
Medical history
With Helpster’s support, Tanjim Jashim was admitted to Al-Sunnah General Hospital Ltd. on June 29, 2026, to address severe vomiting and acute gastroenteritis. The medical team stabilized him through intensive intravenous cholera saline and IV antibiotics, initiating a primary medical intervention that targeted his infection and mild dehydration. After showing steady improvement under constant supervision, he spent a total of three days in the hospital before being safely discharged on July 1, 2026. He returned home to the Karail slum with a comprehensive care plan consisting of oral Ciprocin syrup, zinc supplements, and a medicated cream to fully eradicate his scabies infestation. The institutional treatment worked perfectly, allowing Tanjim to return home free of gastrointestinal pain so he can grow normally and playfully enjoy his favorite hobby of splashing in water.
Prognosis
According to the treating physician, Tanjim Jashim required hospitalization due to severe gastroenteritis causing persistent diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal distension, and the risk of dehydration and other complications. He received intravenous (IV) hydration, close monitoring, medications, and supportive treatment to stabilize his condition and prevent further deterioration. With timely treatment, the child is expected to recover fully, regain his strength, and continue normal growth and development. However, if left untreated, prolonged diarrhea and vomiting could lead to severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, malnutrition, shock, and life-threatening infections.
