Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Background

Adil Ahmed is a cheerful 4-month-old baby boy from a poor family struggling to survive on his father Delwar Hussain's income of only BDT 5,500 per month as a rickshaw driver. His mother, Pinki Begum, grandmother Rejia Begum, and uncle all share the same modest tin-roofed home, and the family often finds it difficult to afford even basic necessities. When Adil developed a cold and cough, his condition quickly worsened into severe pneumonia, causing high fever, breathing difficulties, nasal blockage, and excessive crying, leaving his family deeply worried. Despite their desperate efforts to help him, they could not afford the cost of hospitalization and treatment because their limited income barely covers daily living expenses. The family learned about Helpster Charity through Helpster Volunteer Tanjila Shahin Ema, who referred Adil for support. Without timely treatment, the infection could have become life-threatening, causing severe breathing problems and putting this young child's life at serious risk.

Medical history

Adil Ahmed was admitted to Seba Hospital with severe pneumonia after developing cold, cough, high fever, difficulty breathing, nasal blockage, and excessive crying. He received treatment under the care of the attending physician for several days and was kept under close observation in the hospital. During his hospitalization, he was provided with medicines, supportive care, and continuous monitoring by the doctors and nurses. His condition gradually improved with treatment, and he was discharged on 5 July 2026 with medical advice. At the time of discharge, the patient's family expressed their sincere gratitude to Helpster Volunteer Tanjila Ema and the Seba Hospital team.

Prognosis

According to the treating physician, Adil Ahmed required hospitalization, antibiotic therapy, nebulization, and supportive treatment because the lung infection was causing fever, cough, breathing difficulties, and significant distress. With timely treatment and close monitoring, the infection is expected to clear, his breathing will improve, and he can continue to grow and develop normally. Early medical care will also help prevent the infection from spreading and reduce the risk of serious complications. However, if left untreated, severe pneumonia can rapidly worsen, leading to severe breathing problems, poor feeding, dehydration, and life-threatening complications.
