Ariful Islam is a cheerful and active 8-year-old boy who loves attending school and spending time playing with his friends. He lives with his parents and two elder sisters, Sidratul Muntaha and Mashuda Jannath, in a family that survives on his father's modest income of only 7,000 BDT per month as a day labourer. With most of the family's earnings being spent on food, education, and daily necessities, they were unable to afford the cost of surgery and hospital care when Ariful developed a painful left inguinal hernia. As the swelling and pain gradually worsened, it became difficult for him to play, study, and perform normal activities, causing great concern for his family. Without timely treatment, the hernia could become trapped or strangulated, cutting off the blood supply to the intestine and leading to severe pain, bowel obstruction, life-threatening complications, and the need for emergency surgery. Learning about Helpster Charity through Volunteer Tanjila Shahin Ema brought hope to the family during a time when they feared they would be unable to save their son from further suffering.

Ariful Islam was admitted to Seba Hospital on 09 July 2026 with swelling and pain on the left side of his lower abdomen, which had been causing discomfort for several months. The condition gradually worsened and began affecting his daily activities, including standing, walking, and playing. He received treatment under the care of the hospital's medical team and remained under close observation during his stay. Throughout his hospitalization, he was provided with the necessary medicines, treatment, and supportive care by the doctors and nurses. His condition gradually improved with treatment, and he was discharged on 13 July 2026 with medical advice and follow-up recommendations. At the time of discharge, the patient's family expressed their sincere gratitude to Helpster Charity and the Seba Hospital team for their support and care during his treatment.

According to the treating physician, Ariful Islam has an excellent prognosis if he receives timely surgical repair of his left inguinal hernia and follows the recommended follow-up care. The surgery will correct the hernia, relieve the pain and discomfort, and allow him to return to normal childhood activities, including playing and attending school without limitations. Early treatment will also prevent the hernia from enlarging and reduce the risk of future complications. However, if left untreated, the hernia may become trapped (incarcerated) or strangulated, cutting off the blood supply to the affected tissue and causing severe pain, intestinal obstruction, and a life-threatening medical emergency.
