Saima Akter is a cheerful and innocent 18-month-old girl whose smile brings happiness to her parents and two elder brothers, Abdullah and Abdur Rahman. Her father, Shahidul Islam, is the family's only earning member, driving a rented auto-rickshaw and earning only BDT 7,000 per month, which is barely enough to provide food, housing, and education, making the cost of treatment impossible to afford. After falling from a bed, Saima suffered a fracture of her right upper arm, leaving her in constant pain and unable to move her arm or play like other children her age. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a community medical outreach programme conducted by Anowar Hossain Anu and Meghlal Roy, giving them hope during this difficult time. Without timely treatment, the fracture may heal improperly, leading to permanent deformity, restricted arm movement, chronic pain, and long-term disability

Saima Akter, a 1-year-6-month-old girl, was admitted to Al Aqsa Hospital & Diagnostic Centre on 31 May 2026 with severe pain and swelling of her right arm. Following a comprehensive clinical evaluation and the necessary investigations, she was diagnosed with a Close Fracture of the Proximal Right Humerus. Considering the risk of improper bone healing, permanent deformity, and long-term impairment of arm function, she underwent successful Immobilization with U-Cast (Closed Reduction and U-Cast Application) on the same day. The procedure achieved satisfactory reduction and proper alignment of the fractured bone, which is essential for promoting normal bone healing and preventing future complications. During her hospital stay, Saima remained under close observation for two days and received appropriate pain management, supportive treatment, regular medical assessments, and dedicated nursing care. Following treatment, her pain and swelling gradually improved, and her overall clinical condition showed steady and satisfactory recovery. On 1 June 2026, she was discharged from the hospital in a stable and improved condition. The treating physicians advised continued use of the U-Cast for the recommended duration, along with regular follow-up visits and strict adherence to medical instructions. With appropriate follow-up care and compliance with the treatment plan, Saima is expected to achieve complete recovery and regain normal function of her right arm. According to the treating doctor, immobilization with a U-Cast is the appropriate treatment to keep Saima's fractured arm stable, allowing the bone to heal in the correct position while reducing pain and preventing further injury. With proper immobilization, regular follow-up, and adherence to medical advice, she is expected to make a full recovery and regain normal use of her arm, enabling healthy growth and normal childhood activities. As young children have excellent bone-healing potential, timely treatment offers a very good prognosis. However, if left untreated, the fracture may heal in the wrong position, leading to permanent deformity, restricted shoulder and arm movement, chronic pain, weakness, and long-term impairment that could affect her normal growth and development.
