Background
Yusuf is a 16-year-old teenager and the third child in a family of 7. They all live together in a two-room house. His mom sells food like yams, plantains, and other farm produce, while his dad works as a farmer. Yusuf is a good kid who enjoys playing football. He has had a swelling since he was born, and sometimes it hurts. He has been using local herbs and deworming medicine for it. On presentation, he was examined and diagnosed with Hydrocele.
Medical history
Yusuf was admitted on account of Hydrocele and had Hydrocelectomy surgery done successfully. When he recovered, he was discharged home. He no longer experiences discomfort due to the swelling and is quite happy.
Prognosis
The persistent presence of a hydrocele can cause ongoing discomfort, heaviness, or a feeling of fullness in the scrotum. Although hydroceles are not typically associated with infections, untreated ones may become prone to infections, which can result in pain and complications. Larger hydroceles can interfere with activities like walking or participating in sports due to the added weight and size of the swollen scrotum. Surgical removal of the hydrocele sac is the most effective and permanent treatment for hydrocele. It is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the scrotum, drains the fluid, and removes the sac.
