Baby of Borsha Akter, a 5-day-old newborn girl, has been diagnosed with near-term birth at 36 weeks, low birth weight (2.4 kg), Perinatal Asphyxia with HIE Stage II, and Early-Onset Neonatal Sepsis (EONS). Perinatal asphyxia means she did not receive enough oxygen around the time of birth, resulting in moderate brain dysfunction (HIE Stage II), which explains her delayed crying and repeated seizures. Early-onset neonatal sepsis is a serious infection occurring during the first days of life, contributing to her rapid breathing, chest indrawing, low oxygen levels, and bluish discoloration.

Background
Baby of Borsha Akter is a fragile 5-day-old newborn girl whose parents are desperately hoping to save her life after she developed severe breathing problems and repeated seizures shortly after birth. She lives with her young mother, Borsha Akter, her father, Md. Riton Mallick, and her elderly grandparents in a family of five; her father earns only BDT 8,000 per month as a rickshaw puller, while her grandfather works as a day laborer. This limited income is barely enough for the family's basic needs, making the cost of prolonged NICU care, medicines, oxygen support, and blood products completely beyond their means. The family learned about Helpster Charity through the family of another patient, Baby of Hazera Begum (Helpster ID: 3892), giving them hope during this critical time. Without urgent NICU treatment, her perinatal asphyxia and neonatal sepsis may lead to uncontrolled seizures, severe brain injury, respiratory failure, multi-organ damage, permanent neurological disability, or even death.
Medical history
With Helpster’s support, Baby of Borsha Akter was admitted to Olympus Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd. on July 05, 2026, suffering from severe birth asphyxia, respiratory distress, and early-onset neonatal sepsis. Doctors immediately placed her in the NICU for continuous oxygen, anti-convulsants, and broad-spectrum IV antibiotics to stabilize her breathing, stop her seizures, and fight the infection. Over the course of her treatment, medical staff provided targeted interventions including chest physiotherapy, nebulization, and blood product transfusions to ensure a steady recovery. After showing remarkable improvement, she spent a total of 19 days receiving intensive care before being successfully discharged on July 24, 2026. She returned home with prescribed oral medications like Loracef and Purisal, along with topical ointments to continue her healing in a clean environment. Today, the baby is infection-free, breathing easily, and resting safely at home, giving her a healthy start to life alongside her loving family.
Prognosis
According to Prof. Dr. MM Yusuf, Baby of Borsha Akter requires immediate NICU care, broad-spectrum antibiotics, anti-convulsant medication, oxygen therapy, and blood product transfusions to treat her birth asphyxia (HIE Stage II) and early-onset neonatal sepsis. Receiving this crucial treatment will stabilize her condition, control her seizures, eliminate the severe infection, and safeguard her vital organs against long-term brain injury or disability. If left untreated, the severe oxygen deprivation and spreading infection would rapidly worsen, leading to irreversible neurological damage, organ failure, and a fatal outcome. With timely and proper medical intervention in the intensive care unit, her immediate health risks can be managed effectively, offering her a high chance of recovery and a healthy start to life.
