Sumi A., 24

Sumi Akhtar is a caring and resilient 24-year-old mother who dreams of welcoming her second child into a loving family and giving both of her children a brighter future. Her husband, Masud, earns only BDT 8,000 per month as a daily wage laborer and is the sole provider for Sumi, their three-year-old daughter Amatullah, and his elderly father, Harez, making the cost of emergency surgery impossible for the family to afford. After a healthy pregnancy, the family was devastated when Sumi developed prolonged leakage of amniotic fluid with reduced fetal movements, and doctors diagnosed severe oligohydramnios with fetal distress, placing both mother and baby in immediate danger. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a community miking campaign, which gave them hope during this medical emergency. Without an urgent caesarean section, the baby could suffer severe oxygen deprivation, permanent brain injury, or stillbirth, while Sumi herself could face life-threatening complications, leaving her young daughter and family at risk of an unimaginable loss.

After experiencing, passage of gush of water and leaky membrane for 2 days and less fetal movement for 1 day without progressing labour pain, she arrived at our hospital at 10.00AM in 30 Jun 2026 and doctors performed an ultrasound that revealed amniotic fluid is very low with fetal distress , making vaginal delivery impossible. An emergency cesarean section was promptly arranged, and the procedure was successful, resulting in the birth of a beautiful male baby. Both the mother and the baby are safe and sound, with no complications arising from the surgery. We discharged the patient at 11.30AM in 03rd July 2026.The patient's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Helpster Heroes and the hospital for their timely and effective care.

The doctor's prognosis is that an immediate cesarean section is a crucial, life-saving intervention. The patient's history of premature rupture of membranes, severe oligohydramnios and reduced fetal movement puts both the mother and baby at significant risk. The lack of amniotic fluid can lead to the umbilical cord becoming compressed, which can cut off the baby's oxygen supply and lead to fetal distress, irreversible brain damage, or stillbirth. Without the immediate surgical delivery, the risk of a tragic outcome for the baby is high. The C-section, while a major surgery, offers the best chance to bypass these life-threatening complications and ensure a safe and healthy start to the baby's life.
