Hafizur Rahman has been diagnosed with Congenital Ankyloglossia (Tongue-Tie) associated with Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Adenotonsillitis. Congenital tongue-tie is caused by a tight band of tissue beneath the tongue that restricts normal tongue movement and may affect speaking, eating, and swallowing. At the same time, inflammation of his tonsils and adenoids is causing severe throat pain, fever, painful swallowing, snoring, mouth breathing, and disturbed sleep.

Background
Hafizur Rahman is a bright and caring 10-year-old Rohingya boy who studies in Class Three, dreams of becoming a teacher, and shares a close bond with his three siblings. His father is the family’s only earning member, but because regular work is rarely available in the refugee camp, the family survives mainly on World Food Programme (WFP) food assistance, leaving them unable to afford Hafizur’s hospitalization and specialized surgical treatment. After learning about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, the family sought assistance for his worsening throat problems and congenital tongue-tie. Without timely treatment, he may continue to suffer from recurrent throat infections, painful swallowing, poor nutrition, restricted tongue movement, speech difficulties, disturbed sleep, and worsening breathing obstruction. In severe cases, infection or airway obstruction may cause serious and potentially life-threatening complications
Prognosis
According to the doctor, frenulectomy with adenotonsillectomy is recommended to release the tongue-tie and remove the chronically inflamed tonsils and adenoids. With successful surgery and proper postoperative care, Hafizur is expected to have improved tongue movement, easier swallowing and speaking, better breathing and sleep, and fewer recurrent throat infections. If left untreated, he may continue to suffer from speech and feeding difficulties, repeated infections, poor nutrition, disturbed sleep, and worsening airway obstruction. Severe infection or breathing obstruction may lead to serious and potentially life-threatening complications.
