Getrude C., 1

Getrude is a one-year, three-month-old girl and the second-born child in a family of two children. She lives with both her parents and sibling in a single-room, mud-walled house without electricity. Her parents do not have stable employment and rely on occasional casual jobs to earn a living. Their irregular income is barely enough to provide food and meet the family's basic needs, making it difficult to afford healthcare whenever a family member falls ill. Getrude's mother reported that her daughter began feeling unwell three days before seeking medical care, initially developing a cough and fever. Believing the illness was mild and would resolve on its own, she continued to monitor her at home. However, Getrude's condition progressively worsened, and she developed difficulty breathing, prompting her family to seek urgent treatment. They learned about Helpster Charity through a neighbour whose child's hospital care had previously been supported by the organization. On arrival at the hospital, Getrude appeared acutely ill, was markedly febrile, and required immediate medical assessment, admission, and close monitoring for appropriate treatment.

GETRUDE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SEVERE PNEUMONIA AND WAS MANAGED WITH ANTIBIOTICS, ANTIPYRETICS, CORTICOSTEROIDS AND OTHER DRUGS AS PER THE MEDICAL REPORT. SHE RESPONDED SO WELL TO THE CARE AND MANAGEMENT THAT WAS GIVEN TO HER AND STABILIZED. SHE WAS THEN DISCHARGED HOME ON ORAL MEDICATIONS TO CONTINUE WITH AT HOME.

Getrude was admitted with severe pneumonia, a serious lung infection requiring urgent inpatient treatment. She received appropriate antibiotics, oxygen therapy as indicated, intravenous fluids, fever management, nutritional support, and close monitoring. She responded well to treatment, with gradual improvement in her breathing, fever, feeding, and overall condition. Her prognosis is good, provided she completes the prescribed medication, attends follow-up appointments, and receives prompt medical attention if symptoms recur. Delayed treatment or recurrent respiratory infections could increase the risk of complications.
