Samuel was diagnosed with Severe Malaria, UTI and Pneumonia. Severe malaria occurs when infections are complicated by serious organ failures or abnormalities in the patient's blood or metabolism. A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. UTIs occur when bacteria, typically from the digestive tract, enter the urinary tract through the urethra and multiply, causing an infection. Pneumonia develops when the defensive mechanisms within the lung become overwhelmed by a pathogen which has been either inhaled or aspirated. It is associated with a high mortality rate and significant morbidity. Severe pneumonia is frequently a multisystem disease and patients will often present with multiple organ failure.

Background
Samuel is an intelligent young man who excels in his classes and enjoys playing football. He aspires to become a medical doctor when he grows up. Samuel's parents are peasant farmers, and they often struggle to provide enough food for the family. He came to the hospital complaining of fever, headache, joint pains, and chest pains. He's also having trouble urinating.
Medical history
Samuel was promptly treated for malaria, pneumonia, and a urinary tract infection, a critical intervention that likely saved his life. These combined conditions can lead to long-term complications—such as paralysis, brain injury, or respiratory impairment—if not addressed promptly. Fortunately, he responded well to treatment and has since returned to his regular classes.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. UTI - The infection should be treated immediately, since it may spread onto kidneys, if left untreated. It will also keep causing pain and discomfort if the treatment is not received. Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
