Griffins is diagnosed with Malaria and Septicaemia. Malaria is a potentially life-threatening infectious disease caused by parasites transmitted to humans through the bite of infected female mosquitoes. The infection causes recurrent cycles of symptoms, including high fever, chills, fatigue, and, in severe cases, organ damage or failure.This stage of the disease is defined by the evidence of vital organ dysfunction. Septicemia, also known as sepsis, is a serious medical condition that occurs when the body has an overwhelming immune response to an infection. It happens when bacteria or other pathogens enter the bloodstream, spreading throughout the body and causing widespread inflammation. This can lead to a cascade of harmful effects, including organ damage and failure.

Background
Griffins is an athletic boy who enjoys taking part in various athletic competitions. Despite his active pursuits, he is often described by his friends as a quiet individual. He harbors aspirations of becoming a truck driver as he grows older. However, Griffins' well-being took a downturn a few days ago. He began experiencing symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, joint pains, and loss of appetite.
Medical history
Griffins Okelo was admitted to the hospital with high-grade fever, chills, generalized body weakness, and refusal to feed. He had experienced persistent headaches and joint pains over the past few days. On examination, he was found to be severely ill with signs suggestive of malaria complicated by septicaemia. Laboratory investigations confirmed the diagnosis. He was immediately started on intravenous fluids for dehydration and commenced on intravenous antimalarial therapy together with broad-spectrum antibiotics to manage the systemic infection. After close monitoring and a full course of treatment, Griffins showed significant improvement and was eventually discharged in stable condition, fully recovered and back to his normal self.He plays with his friends more regurlarly after school.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. The widespread inflammation and organ damage caused by septicemia can result in dysfunction or failure of multiple organs, such as the lungs, kidneys, liver, and heart, if not treated. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are administered intravenously as soon as possible to fight the infection causing the septicemia.
