Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Md. Abbas has been diagnosed with Bilateral Incomplete Reducible Inguinal Hernia, meaning hernias are present in both sides of his groin. This occurs when a portion of abdominal tissue or intestine pushes through weak areas in the groin, causing swelling, pain, and discomfort, especially during coughing, straining, or physical activity. Although the swellings can currently return inside, they may suddenly become trapped and cause serious complications. Without timely surgical treatment, he may develop intestinal obstruction, loss of blood supply to the bowel, tissue damage, severe infection, and potentially life-threatening complications.

Background
Md. Abbas is a hopeful 13-year-old Rohingya boy who dreams of becoming an Islamic scholar and lives with his parents and six siblings, including his youngest brother who has a physical disability. Because his father is physically unable to work, this family of nine has no earning member and depends entirely on World Food Programme (WFP) food assistance, making the cost of Abbas’s surgery completely beyond their means. After learning about Helpster Charity through the medical outreach at Kutupalong, the family sought support for his painful bilateral inguinal hernias. Without timely surgery, either hernia may become trapped or strangulated, causing severe pain, intestinal obstruction, loss of blood supply, and permanent bowel damage. Such complications may require emergency surgery and can become life-threatening
Medical history
Md. Abbas, a 13-year-old refugee boy, was admitted to Orion Hospital on 17.07.2026 through Helpster volunteer Md. Younus with bilateral reducible inguinal hernias. He successfully underwent bilateral inguinal herniotomy on 20.07.2026, followed by appropriate postoperative care and monitoring. He recovered well and was discharged in stable condition on 22.07.2026 with medications and follow-up advice. His family sincerely thanks Helpster Charity, its dedicated volunteers, and the Orion Hospital medical team for their generous support, compassionate care, and successful treatment.
Prognosis
According to the doctor, bilateral inguinal herniotomy under anesthesia is recommended to repair the hernias on both sides and prevent serious complications. With successful surgery and proper postoperative care, Abbas is expected to become free from groin pain and swelling and gradually return to normal activities and studies. If left untreated, either hernia may become trapped or strangulated, cutting off the blood supply to the intestine. This can cause severe pain, intestinal obstruction, bowel tissue death, serious infection, and potentially life-threatening complications requiring emergency surgery.
