Sadia Akter, a 7-year-old girl, has been diagnosed with measles, a highly contagious viral infection that commonly affects children. Measles typically causes high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a widespread skin rash, while also weakening the immune system and increasing the risk of serious complications. If not treated promptly, it can lead to pneumonia, severe diarrhea with dehydration, ear infections, brain inflammation (encephalitis), and other life-threatening complications.

Background
Sadia Akter is a polite and well-mannered 7-year-old girl who lives with her parents and her 2½-year-old younger sister in a family of four, hoping to grow up healthy and continue her childhood without interruption. Her father is the family's only earning member, working as a day labourer with a monthly income of approximately BDT 7,000, which is barely enough to cover food and other basic necessities, leaving the family unable to afford the cost of hospitalization, medicines, investigations, and ongoing treatment. After learning about Helpster Charity through volunteer Masud Rana, the family sought assistance in the hope of helping Sadia recover. Despite exhausting their limited resources, they cannot continue her treatment without financial support. Without timely treatment, measles with complications can lead to severe pneumonia, dehydration, brain inflammation (encephalitis), permanent disability, and even death, placing Sadia's life at serious risk.
Medical history
Sadia Akter was admitted to Narayanganj Poly Clinic General Hospital on 19/07/2026 with measles with complications, presenting with prolonged fever, cough, runny nose, generalized rash, and loose watery stools. She received conservative treatment, including intravenous fluids, antipyretics, nutritional support, symptomatic medications, and close medical monitoring throughout her hospital stay. Her condition gradually improved with treatment, and she was discharged on 23/07/2026 in a stable condition. She was advised to continue the prescribed medications, maintain adequate hydration and nutrition, and attend follow-up visits as recommended by her doctor.
Prognosis
The recommended treatment is hospitalization with conservative treatment and close medical monitoring to manage the measles infection, relieve symptoms, maintain hydration and nutrition, and promptly identify and treat any complications. With timely supportive care, medications, and regular monitoring, Sadia is expected to recover fully and return to her normal childhood activities without long-term health problems. If left untreated, measles can progress to severe pneumonia, dehydration, ear infections, brain inflammation (encephalitis), permanent neurological disability, blindness, and other life-threatening complications that could result in death.
