Pendo is the firstborn of two children raised by a single mother. Following her parents’ separation, her mother returned with the children to her parental home because she had no employment or reliable income. Their grandmother was unable to support them financially, so an aunt who survives on casual labour by tilling peoles land, took responsibility for the family. Pendo is a Grade One pupil who is normally cheerful, active and enjoys playing with other children. During a community outreach, Pendo was brought for assessment looking visibly ill and distressed. She had a persistent dry cough, difficulty breathing, wheezing and high fever. She appeared weak, unusually tired and less responsive than normal, with increased effort when breathing and inability to comfortably participate in her usual activities. Assessment confirmed acute bronchitis and urticaria, and admission was recommended. Because the family could not afford treatment, they sought assistance after learning about Helpster Charity during the outreach. Given Pendo’s evident respiratory distress, she was immediately admitted and commenced on nebulization to ease her breathing before further treatment and monitoring.

Pendo was admitted for days with a diagnosis of acute bronchitis for further treatment and observation. During admission, she was managed with appropriate medications to control the infection, relieve cough and fever, maintain hydration, and support her overall recovery. She was monitored closely for respiratory status, temperature trends, and general response to treatment. Over the course of her admission, she showed steady clinical improvement, with reduction in cough severity, relief of chest discomfort, improvement in appetite, and restoration of strength. Her condition stabilized well, and she became comfortable with no signs of worsening respiratory distress. Following satisfactory recovery, she was discharged home in stable condition with continued medication and follow-up advice. Her overall prognosis remained good, with expected full recovery.

Pendo presented with symptoms consistent with acute bronchitis, including persistent cough, chest findings, fatigue, and reduced activity levels. Her clinical state at presentation suggested a moderate severity of illness, likely worsened by delayed care. She has been started on appropriate treatment, including supportive care such as hydration, antipyretics, and medications to relieve cough and airway inflammation. Close monitoring has been initiated to ensure there is no progression to more severe lower respiratory tract infection. The prognosis is generally good. She is expected to gradually improve over a few days to weeks.
