About emergency care
Term neonate (38+ weeks gestation), appropriate for gestational age (2.9 kg), with Perinatal Asphyxia, Stage III Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), Early-Onset Neonatal Sepsis (EONS), Neonatal Jaundice, Cephalohematoma, and Neonatal Seizures secondary to HIE/Perinatal Asphyxia. A term neonate is a newborn delivered at 37 weeks or later, while appropriate for gestational age means the baby's weight is within the expected range for its gestational age. Perinatal asphyxia means inadequate oxygen supply around birth, which has resulted in Stage III HIE, the most severe form of brain injury caused by reduced oxygen and blood flow; the baby also has EONS, an infection occurring during the first days of life, along with jaundice and a cephalohematoma (collection of blood beneath the scalp).

Background
Baby of Nupur Akter is a four-day-old boy living with his parents, Md. Omor Faruk and Nupur Akter, in a three-member family in a tin-roofed house. His father works as a day labourer and earns only approximately USD 44 per month, while his mother is a housewife, making it extremely difficult for the family to afford the high cost of NICU care. The newborn was admitted with perinatal asphyxia, Stage III HIE, early-onset neonatal sepsis, neonatal seizures, jaundice, and cephalohematoma, requiring urgent intensive care. His condition is critical, and without timely NICU treatment, the combination of severe HIE, seizures, respiratory distress, and sepsis could lead to permanent neurological damage or become life-threatening. The family learned about Helpster Charity through hospital staff member M. Masud Molla, allowing the baby to receive the urgent care he needs.
Medical history
Baby of Nupur Akter was admitted at Sandhani Medical Care & Hospital Ltd. on 22/07/2026 03:48 pm with absence of crying after birth, lethargy, and convulsion episodes two times. Upon clinical evaluation and investigations, he was diagnosed as a term neonate (38+ weeks gestation, birth weight 2.9 kg) suffering from Perinatal Asphyxia and severe Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) Stage III. The patient is safe now. Following the treatment, she received appropriate medical treatment, continuous monitoring, and quality nursing care, which supported her recovery. She was discharged from the hospital on 08.08.2026 in good health.
Prognosis
According to the doctor, the newborn requires continued NICU care initially, followed by transfer to the ward once clinically improved. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are expected to control the infection, while appropriate management of convulsions and correction of metabolic abnormalities will help stabilize his neurological and overall condition. With timely treatment, close monitoring, and supportive care, his chances of recovery and stabilization are improved. If left untreated, persistent infection, recurrent seizures, and metabolic disturbances may worsen HIE and cause severe neurological damage, organ dysfunction, or become life-threatening.
