About pulmonology
Minha Jannath has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia with suspected sub-intestinal obstruction. Severe pneumonia is a serious lung infection that can cause breathing difficulty and reduced oxygen levels, while suspected intestinal obstruction can interfere with the normal passage of stool and cause abdominal distension. Her condition was associated with fever, cough, respiratory distress, low oxygen saturation, and persistent abdominal bloating and constipation. She required hospitalization and supportive treatment, followed by referral for further gastrointestinal evaluation.

Background
Minha Jannath is a 10-month-old girl from a financially disadvantaged family of five living in a modest tin-roofed house. Her father is the sole earning member, working as an auto-rickshaw driver and earning approximately USD 49 per month, which is barely enough to meet the family’s basic needs and leaves them unable to afford her medical expenses. Previously a healthy and active child, Minha developed fever, cold, cough, and worsening respiratory distress before being admitted to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia with suspected sub-intestinal obstruction. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a local community member and sought support because they could not manage the cost of her urgent treatment. Without timely medical care, her breathing difficulty and abdominal condition could worsen and lead to serious or life-threatening complications.
Medical history
Minha Jannath was admitted to Seba Hospital on 14 August 2026 with fever, cough, respiratory distress, and abdominal bloating. She was diagnosed with severe pneumonia with suspected intestinal obstruction and received oxygen, medicines, nebulization, fluids, and supportive care under close medical observation. Although her breathing problem was managed, her abdominal swelling increased during hospitalization, and she did not pass stool for 48 hours despite supportive treatment; she also became increasingly uncomfortable and cried excessively. Due to the persistent and worsening abdominal problem, she was referred to Sylhet GastroLiver Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. She was discharged from Seba Hospital on 22 August 2026 with medical advice and referral for further care.
Prognosis
According to the treatment plan, hospitalization with antibiotic therapy, nebulization, and supportive care is expected to control the severe pneumonia, improve Minha’s breathing, reduce fever, and support recovery. Evaluation and appropriate management of her abdominal fullness will help identify and address the suspected sub-intestinal obstruction while she remains under close monitoring. With timely treatment, she is expected to stabilize and gradually return to normal activity. If left untreated, severe pneumonia may worsen respiratory distress and low oxygen levels, while the abdominal condition could progress and cause serious complications.
