Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About infections

Pneumonia develops when the defensive mechanisms within the lung become overwhelmed by a pathogen which has been either inhaled or aspirated. It is associated with a high mortality rate and significant morbidity. Severe pneumonia is frequently a multisystem disease and patients will often present with multiple organ failure.

Background

Wendy is an adorable girl who fell ill the previous night, experiencing symptoms of fever, cough, and diarrhea. Concerned about her worsening condition and signs of dehydration, her mother promptly rushed her to the hospital.

Medical history

Wendy's mother reported complains of reduced level of feeding, multiple episodes of mucoid and watery stool, hotness of the body and persistent coughing that is associated with chest congestion and difficulty in breathing. Three laboratory tests were done; full haemogram, mrdt(malaria test) and random blood sugar, she was then diagnosed with with severe pneumonia and severe dehydration. The patient was cannulated immediately for intravenous administration of ringers lactate infuxion to correct the severe dehydration ceftriaxone( an antibiotic for treating pneumonia), nebulized with venntolin solution to easen the chest congestion, multivitamin syrup, augmentin (an antibiotic), calpol syrup(antipyretic), flagyl. ventolin , zinc tablets and oral rehydration salt to be administered at home. Follow up and review was scheduled after a week

Prognosis

Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
