About infections
Ariba Akter Shifa, a 50-day-old infant, has been diagnosed with pneumonia with scabies. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can cause fever, cough, breathing difficulty, and abnormal lung sounds due to inflammation and infection. Scabies is a contagious skin infestation caused by mites that typically produces intense itching and an itchy rash, which may become infected when the skin is damaged by scratching. In a 50-day-old infant, the combination of respiratory infection and infected skin lesions requires prompt medical evaluation and appropriate treatment to prevent worsening of the conditions.

Background
Ariba Akter Shifa is a 50-day-old infant who developed high fever, acute respiratory distress, and severe itching with rashes, requiring urgent medical care. Her father is physically disabled and unable to earn, while her mother, grandmother, and chronically ill grandfather also cannot contribute to the family income; the entire six-member household depends on her uncle, who earns only approximately USD 86 per month working at a scrap shop. With this very limited income and the family’s other household expenses, they cannot afford Ariba’s hospital treatment and medicines. Doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia and infected scabies, and without timely treatment, worsening respiratory distress and infection could lead to serious complications and potentially become life-threatening in such a young infant. The family learned about Helpster Charity through a Medical Officer at Deshbangla Hospital; Ariba’s mother had previously received free treatment through Helpster under Helpster ID 7039.
Medical history
With Helpster’s support, Ariba Akter Shifa was admitted to Deshbangla Hospital & Diagnostic Center on August 22, 2026, for urgent care of pneumonia and infected scabies. Doctors immediately stabilized her through primary medical intervention with IV antibiotics, antipyretics, and nebulization. After spending five days in the hospital, she was safely discharged on August 27, 2026, with prescribed topical Muron ointment and Lorix cream for home care. The treatment successfully cured her breathing difficulties and skin infections, allowing baby Ariba to rest peacefully at home.
Prognosis
Hospitalization with antibiotic therapy, nebulization, and other supportive treatment is expected to control Ariba’s pneumonia, improve her breathing, reduce infection-related symptoms, and support recovery. Appropriate treatment and close monitoring are particularly important because she is only 50 days old. With timely care, her respiratory condition and associated infection are expected to improve, allowing her to return to normal feeding, activity, and development. If left untreated, pneumonia may worsen rapidly, causing severe respiratory distress, dangerously low oxygen levels, and serious complications that can become life-threatening in a young infant.
