The inflammation of gastritis is most often the result of infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers or the regular use of certain pain relievers. The condition is associated with the acute pain.

Background
Mary aspires to pursue a teaching course in college and become a teacher. She enjoys playing netball and swimming, and is always eager to help with household chores. Known for her hard work and dedication, Mary excels both in her studies and at home. However, a few days ago, Mary began experiencing some concerning symptoms. She started complaining of headaches, dizziness, and pain in the epigastric region, accompanied by vomiting. These new health issues are a departure from her usual well-being.
Medical history
The patient presented with symptoms of headache, dizziness, vomiting, and epigastric pain that had persisted for a month. A Blood Slide for malaria test was conducted, and the results were positive. Additionally, an H. pylori test showed a reactive result. The patient was prescribed antimalaria medication and antibiotics and discharged with counseling on preventing the recurrence of epigastric pain. A follow-up appointment was scheduled for one week later, during which it was confirmed that the patient was recovering well.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. Untreated gastritis can lead to erosion of the mucosal lining, increasing the risk of developing ulcers and even gastric bleeding, which poses a serious health risk.
