Background
Washington is a four-year-old boy who enjoys playing football and looking at books filled with pictures of wild animals. His favorite food is chapati, an unleavened, whole wheat flatbread. Recently, he developed itchy rashes on his body, along with a cough and a runny nose.
Medical history
Washington presented with an itchy rash covering the entire body, accompanied by a high fever, a non-productive cough, and flu-like symptoms. Examination Findings: Skin: Scaly rash, non-septic Temperature: 37.5°C (febrile) Respiratory System: Chest clear Cardiovascular System: S1 and S2 present Abdomen: Soft and non-tender Laboratory Results: BS for MPS: No malaria parasites detected Diagnosis: Acute pharyngitis Allergic dermatitis Treatment: The patient was prescribed: Anti-inflammatory medication for 3 days Antibiotics for 5 days Painkillers for symptom relief A follow-up call confirmed that the patient had recovered well.
Prognosis
If allergic contact dermatitis is not treated, it can lead to the skin rash, itching, and redness can intensify, causing more significant discomfort and irritation. Scratching the itchy skin can lead to breaks in the skin, creating openings for bacteria to enter and cause secondary infections.Without proper treatment, allergic contact dermatitis can become a chronic or long-lasting condition, leading to persistent skin issues.
