Background
Elsa, a kind and considerate girl from a modest family, has been experiencing a swelling on her back for the past two weeks. Alongside this, she has been suffering from a fever and exhibiting crankiness. Her mother noticed that the swelling caused pain when touched. Concerned, her parents took her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with Cellulitis.
Medical history
This was the patient's first visit to the facility, presenting with a sudden-onset swelling on the back that gradually increased in size and was accompanied by fever. Examination Findings: General Condition: Fair Temperature: 37.9°C SpO₂: 95% (No respiratory distress) Local Examination: Large, shiny, and warm swelling on the back Diagnosis: Cellulitis Treatment: Antibiotics prescribed for 5 days The abscess was incised and pus drained out, and the patient was discharged in stable condition. Elsa was brought to the hospital after completing the antibiotic dose and confirmed to be well
Prognosis
Complications of cellulitis can be very serious. These can include extensive tissue damage and tissue death (gangrene). The infection can also spread to the blood, bones, lymph system, heart, or nervous system. These infections can lead to amputation, shock, or even death. Doctors treat cellulitis with antibiotics.
