Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology

Pneumonia develops when the defensive mechanisms within the lung become overwhelmed by a pathogen which has been either inhaled or aspirated. It is associated with a high mortality rate and significant morbidity. Severe pneumonia is frequently a multisystem disease and patients will often present with multiple organ failure.

Background

Merverric is a two-year-old boy who loves playing with other children. He enjoys football and his favorite meal consists of fish and cornmeal. Recently, his father reported that Merverric has developed a wet cough accompanied by a runny nose and nasal congestion over the past few days.

Medical history

The patient had initially visited the hospital with a persistent cough, fever, nasal congestion, and mild chest pain. On examination, the doctors noted some some crackles and rhonchi in the chest, typical of severe pneumonia Laboratory tests were also conducted to rule out other illnesses, and based on the physical examination and laboratory results, the patient was given an antibiotic injection followed by a five-day course of oral antibiotics. Additional medications included anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers to manage discomfort. The patient was discharged in a stable condition and advised to complete the prescribed treatment. A week after discharge, a follow-up visit confirmed that the patient had recovered well. The cough and congestion had cleared, and there were no signs of fever or discomfort. The patient was advised to seek medical attention if symptoms returned.

Prognosis

Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
