Kish was diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Pharyngitis. Severe malaria occurs when infections are complicated by serious organ failures or abnormalities in the patient's blood or metabolism. Pharyngitis is an inflammation or irritation of the pharynx, the part of the throat. It's commonly referred to as a sore throat. Pharyngitis can be caused by viral infections, or bacterial infections.

Background
Kish is a two-year-old girl who enjoys playing and dancing. Her favorite meal is rice and chicken stew. Her mother's greatest dream is for Kish to become a teacher. Recently, Kish had a high fever, flu, cough, and occasional vomiting after eating. During one episode of high fever, Kish had a convulsion, prompting her mother to rush her to the hospital.
Medical history
Kish came to the hospital with high fever, chest pain, flu, cough, vomiting and convulsion of one episode. After physical examination and laboratory investigations, it was confirmed that Kish has malaria with febrile convulsions and also pharyngitis. He received the necessary treatment and has since recovered. A follow-up call done to his mother 3 days after discharge confirmed that Kish is now doing well.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. If left untreated or if the immune system is weakened, the pharyngitis can sometimes spread to other parts of the respiratory tract, causing conditions like bronchitis or pneumonia. Untreated strep throat can lead also to many potential complications. Bacterial pharyngitis, specifically strep throat, is typically treated with antibiotics, such as penicillin or amoxicillin.
