Fredrick was diagnosed with Severe Malaria and Scabies. Severe malaria occurs when infections are complicated by serious organ failures or abnormalities in the patient's blood or metabolism. Scabies is an infestation of the skin by the human itch mite. The microscopic scabies mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays its eggs. The most common symptoms of scabies are intense itching and a pimple-like skin rash. It is contagious.

Background
Fredrick is a ten-year-old cheerful boy who dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer and is already diligently working in school to achieve this goal. His hobby is playing football. Described by his mother as very obedient, Fredrick is always willing to help around the house with any chores. He came to the hospital with complaints of general body malaise, joint pains, a runny nose, cough, and a fever. Additionally, he had itchy rashes on his body.
Medical history
Fredrick came to the hospital with complaints of general body malaise, joint pains, a runny nose, cough, and a fever. Additionally, he had itchy rashes on his body. The doctor reviewed him after which it was noted that he had to be admitted for care in the hospital as an in-patient. He was given medication as an in-patient and discharged after 3 days to continue taking oral medication at home. 3 days after discharge he was brought back to the hospital and confirmed to be doing well.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. Without treatment, the itching and skin rash associated with scabies can intensify and become more widespread, leading to severe discomfort and sleep disturbances. Additionally, scratching the affected areas can cause open sores and increase the risk of bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo or cellulitis. In some cases, untreated scabies can lead to a persistent and chronic form of the condition, which can be even more challenging to manage.
