An inguinal hernia is a condition in which a portion of the intestine or abdominal tissue protrudes through a weakened or torn area in the lower abdominal wall, typically in the groin area. A person with an inguinal hernia typically experiences a noticeable bulge or lump in the groin area. This bulge can be painful or uncomfortable, especially when lifting, coughing, or straining. Some individuals might also feel aching or burning sensations around the hernia. In certain cases, the hernia can lead to symptoms like groin pain, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, and discomfort.

Background
Sadiq is a ten-year-old boy from a poor family. He is cheerful and playful. He likes to play tennis and dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer in the future. Sadiq was healthy until two years ago when he noticed an unusual swelling in his scrotum. It was accompanied by mild pain, discomfort and a feeling of heaviness. He went to Helpster for treatment and was diagnosed with an Inguinal Hernia.

Sadiq was healthy until two years ago when he noticed an unusual swelling in his scrotum. It was accompanied by mild pain, discomfort and a feeling of heaviness. He went to Helpster for treatment and was diagnosed with an Inguinal Hernia. He was subjected to surgery on 23/3/24,a procedure called Hernioraphy and he was stable and discharged home on 26/3/24. The child and his parent are excited.
Prognosis
If left untreated, inguinal hernias can lead to complications such as bowel obstruction, strangulation (where blood supply to the herniated tissue is cut off), and significant pain or discomfort. Surgery is the most common treatment for inguinal hernias to repair the weakened area and prevent these potential complications.
