Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About pulmonology

Pneumonia develops when the defensive mechanisms within the lung become overwhelmed by a pathogen which has been either inhaled or aspirated. It is associated with a high mortality rate and significant morbidity. Severe pneumonia is frequently a multisystem disease and patients will often present with multiple organ failure.

Background

Mohammad, a three-month-old boy from Narayanganj, was living happily with his parents in a tin-roofed house, cherished deeply by his family. His father, the sole breadwinner, works tirelessly at a small garment factory for 25 days a month. However, his earnings fall short of covering essential expenses such as rent, utilities, food, and medical care. Mohammad's father recounts the distressing ordeal of his son's severe pneumonia, marked by high fever, respiratory distress, cough, and cold. Despite seeking help at the government hospital, the lack of proper medications and available beds left them in despair. Fortunately, a neighbor informed them about the partnership between Narayanganj Polyclinic and Helpster Charity.

Medical history

Mohammad’s baby boy was struggling with Severe Pneumonia. Despite multiple rounds of antibiotics from the local pharmacy, as well as treatment from government hospitals and private doctors, his condition continued to worsen. An emergency hospitalization became necessary. He received oxygen therapy and nebulization treatments with sulbutamol, ipratropium bromide, and budesonide, along with injectable antibiotics, as his situation was critical. Thankfully, he is now doing well and has returned home, bringing smiles to his parents’ faces.

Prognosis

Pneumonia should be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, pneumonia may lead to the permanent lung damage, respiratory failure, septicaemia (infection entering blood stream and causing sepsis), pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid in the space between the lung and chest wall, which can make breathing difficult), and other life-threatening complications.
