Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

Sondaho, Post: Santhia, District: Pabna. Post code: 6670, Bangladesh

Background

Khushi resides in a two-room tin house with her husband, five-year-old son, and mother-in-law. Their financial situation is quite challenging; her husband earns a modest income as a fisherman, mainly catching fish in local ponds, which is insufficient to cover Khushi's necessary medical treatment, even at a government hospital. Due to extreme poverty, Khushi was married off at just fifteen years old and now manages the household as a homemaker. She is currently pregnant and anticipates needing a caesarean section. Expressing her concerns, Khushi shared, "We were deeply worried, lacking the funds for my treatment and without anyone to borrow from. I was grateful to meet the health workers who introduced me to Helpster Charity. Now, I have a glimmer of hope. I earnestly appeal to the donors of Helpster Charity to assist us, safeguarding both my life and that of my unborn child."

Medical history

Khushi was pregnant and needed Cesarean Section due to Amniotic fluid leakage that could lead to birth traumas of the baby, and threatening conditions of Khushi. The Cesarean section was perforemd in RUDO hospital and went without any complications. It was done through a spinal block. Catheters were used to drain urine. Abdominal skin was cleaned with antiseptic. An experienced surgeon conducted the surgery on about 6 inches of the lower abdomen. After the operation Khushi needed to stay in the hospital for 5 days so that the doctors could observe the condition of the Mother and the Baby. Khushi was given antibiotics these days. Khushi and her baby were discharged on April,9. After 6 weeks Khushi will come again to the hospital for a medical check up. Khushi: ”I cannot find words to describe how happy I am. We have a new family member. I am so grateful to RUDO Hospital and Helpster Charity who saved our lives and didn’t let us fall into big debtsl.”

Prognosis

This condition can lead to a risk of fetal growth retardation, increased risk of umbilical cord compression and impaired fetal blood supply, and an increased risk of complications during labor such as dystocia or obstructed labor. In these situations, cesarean section is crucial to ensure the well-being of the mother and a safe birth.
