Why is treatment sometimes done earlier than the payment?

When a case is urgent and vital, hospitals often proceed with delivering medical care right away to save a life, even before the finalisation of admission procedures. Usually, when this happens, hospitals put the bill on our credit until the funds are transferred to their accounts. That’s why the chronology can sometimes be in disorder.

About urology

Aisha was diagnosed with Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. UTIs occur when bacteria, typically from the digestive tract, enter the urinary tract through the urethra and multiply, causing an infection.

Background

Aisha is an eighteen-year-old girl living with her parents. She graduated from a government school and is the eldest of seven siblings. Aisha sews caps with her friends and loves cooking. Due to financial constraints, she was unable to seek medical treatment until she learned about Helpster. She presented to the Nakowa Hospital two days ago with complaints of genital itching, lower abdominal pain, and painful urination lasting for one and a half weeks.

Medical history

Aisha was attended to on 25th March 2024 presenting with symptoms of a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). Prompt diagnosis and medical care were provided to address the infection and prevent complications. She was prescribed Ciprofloxacin, Cafixime, and Zithromax, which effectively treated the infection over the course of her therapy. With adherence to the medications, her symptoms resolved, and she made a full recovery. The total cost of her treatment was ₦14,000, which covered consultation and prescribed medications. The timely intervention ensured that Aisha regained her health quickly and safely.

Prognosis

UTI should be treated immediately, since it may spread onto kidneys, if left untreated. It will also keep causing pain and discomfort if the treatment is not received. If STI is not treated on time, it can cause cause long-term health complications if left untreated. For example, untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, which can cause chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. Untreated syphilis can progress through stages, potentially causing damage to the heart, brain, nerves, and other organs.
