Background
Pauline is the second of three siblings in her family. Known for her well-behaved and disciplined demeanor, she actively participates as a member of the singing game team at her school. With aspirations of becoming a nurse in the future, Pauline's favorite meal is cornmeal and fish. She was admitted to the hospital with complaints of a severe throbbing headache, accompanied by fever and loss of appetite.
Medical history
Pauline presented with severe headache and hotness of body. Upon examination, she was sick-looking and quite febrile. Laboratory tests confirmed that she was suffering from malaria and she was put on antimalarial injection followed by oral antimalarial medication, and also put on anaelgesics for 5 days A visit to their home a few days after confirmed that she was well and had resumed school.
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences.
