Lawan is a fifteen-year-old boy, the eighth child among sixteen siblings. He is a Junior Secondary School student and an introvert who is currently learning bricklaying. Lawan aspires to become a lawyer when he grows up. He was apparently well until about five days ago when he developed a fever, headache, runny nose, abdominal pain, and bilateral earache. Upon presenting at our facility, he was evaluated through examination and laboratory investigation.

Lawan Mohammed was successfully treated of malaria, enteric fever, gastroenteritis, otitis media, and acute respiratory tract infection, all at no cost, thanks to the generous support of Helpster Charity. He was admitted to Nakowa Specialist Hospital, where he received comprehensive medical care to address these serious health issues. The combined infections had severely impacted Lawan's health, but with the hospital's expert medical team and the financial backing of Helpster Charity, he underwent the necessary treatments and made a full recovery. His family, overwhelmed with gratitude, praised Helpster Charity for covering all medical expenses, which relieved them of a significant financial burden. The charity’s timely intervention ensured that Lawan received the critical care he needed, restoring his health and bringing relief to his family.

Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. Without intervention, the infection may persist or worsen, causing ongoing pain, discomfort, and hearing loss. In some cases, untreated otitis media can lead to more severe complications, such as the spread of infection to nearby structures like the mastoid bone (mastoiditis) or the development of chronic otitis media, which can lead to long-term hearing problems. In children, chronic ear infections can potentially impact language development and academic performance. Therefore, prompt medical attention and appropriate treatment, often involving antibiotics or surgical interventions, are essential to prevent these complications and ensure optimal ear health.
